How to Play Sixes in Golf (Round Robin)

Sixes — also called Round Robin or Hollywood — is the great foursome game: partners rotate every six holes, so over the round you team up with everyone once. It's three quick matches in one.

The rotation (this is the whole game)

Four players, three six-hole segments, three different partnerships:

• Holes 1–6: Players 1 & 2 vs. 3 & 4
• Holes 7–12: Players 1 & 3 vs. 2 & 4
• Holes 13–18: Players 1 & 4 vs. 2 & 3

Everyone partners each other player exactly once — nobody can complain they got stuck with the same partner all day.

How it scores

Each six-hole segment is a better-ball match: your team's score on a hole is the better (net) ball of the two partners, and the lower team score wins the hole. Win more holes over the six and you win that segment's stake. Tie the segment and it's a push. At the end, you add up your three segments.

Net Sixes: playing with handicaps

For mixed groups, play net: each player gets their handicap strokes on the holes where the stroke index gives them one, and each team takes its best net ball on every hole. It keeps the rotating matches fair no matter who you're paired with.

A real payout example

$2 per segment, four players (A, B, C, D):

Settle up: B finishes +$4, C is −$4, and A and D wash out at even. Every segment is a wash across the four of you — the round's totals just come down to who kept landing on the winning side.
