Chaos Card Golf Game Rules
Chaos Card is a SideAction Saloon original: a deck of wild cards scattered face-down across a handful of holes. You never know which hole is loaded — until you get there and the card flips. One hole the stakes triple, the next you're putting with your wrong hand.
The setup
- Set a stake per challenge (the base unit, say $1) and how many chaos holes you want — 4 by default.
- Those holes are drawn at random before the round and each is dealt a hidden card. Nobody knows which holes are loaded.
- Pick a mode: group (one card flips for everyone on a chaos hole) or individual (each player draws their own card).
- Pick a scope: Standalone runs Chaos Card on its own with skill-challenge cards; Integrated lets the cards bend whatever other games you're already playing.
How it works — the cards
There are 16 cards across three categories. Every normal hole plays normal; a chaos hole flips a card that changes that hole only.
| Card | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Double Down | Stake Modifier | All active stakes are 2× on this hole |
| Triple Threat | Stake Modifier | Stakes triple — appears at most once per round |
| Joker Pot | Stake Modifier | All pending skins collapse here; hole winner takes the pot |
| Press Up | Stake Modifier | All Banker and Hammer bets auto-press — no choice |
| Blind Bogey | Stake Modifier | Stake multiplier (1–4×) hidden until everyone holes out |
| Long Drive | Skill Challenge | Longest tee shot wins the bonus from each other player |
| Putting Duel | Skill Challenge | Longest putt made wins the bonus from each other player |
| First Blood | Skill Challenge | First player to reach the green wins the bonus |
| Greenie Blitz | Skill Challenge | Par 3s only — hit the green AND make birdie to collect |
| Two-Ball | Skill Challenge | Each player hits two tee shots; the lower score counts |
| Scramble Tee | Rule Twist | Everyone tees off; the group plays the best one |
| Mulligan Madness | Rule Twist | Everyone gets one free mulligan — use it or lose it |
| Red Tees | Rule Twist | Everyone plays from the forward tees this hole |
| One Club | Rule Twist | Pick one club before teeing off; use only it all hole |
| Wrong Hand | Rule Twist | Everyone putts with their non-dominant hand |
| Speed Golf | Rule Twist | Play within 45 seconds of reaching your ball or take a penalty |
Wrong Hand and Speed Golf are switched off by default — flip them on if your group likes the extra mayhem.
How a round plays
- You tee off blind. Most holes are ordinary — then you reach a chaos hole and the card flips.
- Stake Modifiers change the money: Double Down doubles it, Triple Threat triples it, Blind Bogey keeps the multiplier a secret until the hole is done.
- Skill Challenges add a one-hole side bet — closest, longest, first, or birdie — settled the moment the hole ends.
- Rule Twists change how you must play the hole, from one club to your wrong hand. No money mechanic, just pure havoc.
The payouts
Single-winner skill cards (Long Drive, Putting Duel, First Blood) pay the winner the stake from every other player. Greenie Blitz pays everyone who hit the green and carded a birdie, funded by everyone who didn't. Stake Modifiers don't pay on their own — they multiply whatever other game is live on that hole.
| Card | Who pays whom |
|---|---|
| Long Drive / Putting Duel / First Blood | Winner collects the stake from each of the other players |
| Greenie Blitz | Earners split the pot put up by the non-earners |
| Double Down / Triple Threat / Blind Bogey | Multiplies the active game's stake (2×, 3×, or hidden 1–4×) |
| Two-Ball | No separate winner — the lower of two tee shots feeds your score |
A worked example
Foursome, $1 stake per challenge, 4 chaos holes. Hole 7 flips Long Drive:
- Cole bombs the longest drive. He collects $1 from each of the other three — +$3.
- Amy, Ben, and Dee each pay −$1.
Two holes later, hole 9 flips Double Down while a $5 Skins game is running. The skin on that hole is now worth $10 — same game, double the sting. And because Triple Threat can only show up once a round, when it does, the whole group knows that one is the big one.
Strategy
You can't game a card you can't see, so Chaos Card is more nerve than calculation — but there's an edge in it. Bank your normal-hole steadiness, then bring extra focus to the chaos holes where the swings are largest. On a flipped Stake Modifier, the player already winning the hole wants the multiplier; the player behind wants to bail. Skill cards reward specialists — a long hitter loves Long Drive, a flat-stick wizard waits all day for Putting Duel. And remember Triple Threat fires only once, so the round it shows up, everyone presses the gas.
Who Chaos Card is for
Built for groups who think a straight bet gets stale — it injects randomness, skill duels, and goofy rule twists without rewriting the whole round. Run it Standalone for a self-contained game of skill challenges, or Integrated so its cards supercharge your Skins, Banker, or Wolf on the holes that flip.
Keeping the books straight
Chaos Card is impossible to track on a scorecard: hidden holes, 16 different cards, secret multipliers, skill-bet payouts that fan out across the whole group, and modifiers that reach into your other games. SideAction Saloon deals the deck, hides the cards until you arrive, flips them at the right hole, runs every challenge and multiplier, and settles all of it automatically — so you can chase the chaos and still know exactly who owes who at the end.
